About a week ago, I ordered a small computer that I can learn to program on. It’s called the Raspberry Pi.
The Raspberry Pi is a small computer that costs 35$. This is what it looks like.
Next to it is my dad’s watch, for proportional uses. Basically, the computer could fit in your hand. However, due to its’ small size and overall cheapness, it is limited. You cannot run big programs or do anything too complicated. Also, upon turning it on, you get a command-line window that pops up. There isn’t any home screen or graphic display that you’re used to. This is what the command line looks like:
On the screen is a lot of confusing text that says a lot of things really fast. Once I log in, I type in the command “startx” which brings me to a normal computer display, like the one you’re using now. I’ll keep you updated on the projects I’m working on with the Raspberry Pi.
This February 1st, my five-month requirement for serving a position of leadership in my troop will be fulfilled, as well as my six-month requirement for being a First-Class scout. Hopefully I will have my three Eagle-required merit badges completed by the first, too. That way, I’ll be able to earn my Star Scout rank. After that is life, and then Eagle.
On this date I have written my third short story. I enjoy writing and I hope to do it quite a bit during my life. “Writing is like eating ice cream- you start hungry and then you get really cold afterwards.”
You can see the stories HERE.
This is the news for the past few weeks, because I’m too tired to try to write extravagant paragraphs.
1.) My Dad and I have been working on creating and running a Minecraft server for my friends and I to use. We are working on connecting it to the outside world.
2.) I have joined the holiday ensemble for my 8th Grade Band class. We learn Christmas music to play early in the morning at school.
3.) I have written my first short story. It is called The Storm That Sounded Like Dead Fish. It’s about the adventures of a mouse and his friendly acorn home. Weird title, weird plot, and a weird author. You can read it here, on Wattpad, or here, on my school blog. Please remember that this is copyrighted material.
Today my dad and I ran a 5k together. We finished in 28 minutes and had a 9 minute/mile pace. Some uphill, some downhill, we ran on. Didn’t stop.
You can see everyone who finished here.
In my ELA Class, we’re making a short film. By ourselves. Cool, right?
So far we have 14 clips to piece together in order, not including special effects. It’s about the short story “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty. I’ll post the main video once we’re finished.
In my troop in order to earn First Class you have to serve a position of leadership for 4 months. On January 30th 2015 I will have earned the required amount of time and hopefully 3 merit badges required for eagle. Then I can do 6 hours of service projects and *poof* I shall be a Star scout.
This is the first post of George’s Website. Hello!
